SOS Children’s Villages Beau Bassin

SOS Children’s Village Beau-Bassin is the first of the two Children’s Villages to start welcoming abandoned children in Mauritius in 1992. With a fine Créole architecture, SOS Children’s Village Beau-Bassin architectural design is attractive and is situated not far from the Balfour Garden, with a magnificent environment.

The village consists of 14 family houses and has the capacity to accommodate some 150 children. Various services are offered like, remedial education, literacy, and pedagogical activities. The Kindergarten provides pre-primary education to children in our residential care as well as those in the neighbouring community.

SOS Children's Village Beau Bassin also helps its youth by preparing them to become more autonomous. Youth leaders assist the young adolescents.
Besides the standard facilities, the Village also provide other essential support like the services of psychologists, leisure and development activities.

Counselling by psychologists
Psychologists give therapeutic support to our children in order to support them through past trauma.

Social work
Professionalsocial workers work closely with the children to plan their development and help them establish relationship with their parents.

Education
Teachers work together with the SOS mothers to help children in need of individual attention in their studies.

Remedial Education
Remedial education teachers help children, especially those who have severe lack in their education.

Since 1992, over 140 children have left the village and are now young adults, integrated into the community. Most of them are leading a normal and decent life. The Village has celebrated the weddings of eight youngsters, who now have their own family. It is a pleasure when they visit their SOS mothers and fellow brothers and sister of the Village.
