Welcome to the website of SOS Children's Villages Mauritius

"Hermann Gmeiner's SOS Children's Village concept is not just aiming at the children in an SOS Children's Village, we want every child in this world to have a mother and a family as well as brothers and sisters, a house and a community. We want as many children as possible - both inside and outside the SOS Children's Villages - to grow up under these conditions."

Helmut Kutin, President of SOS-Kinderdorf International

Our target group consists of children who have lost parental care and those who are at risk of abandonment or whose basics rights are not being fulfilled.

The core of our programme consists of the two SOS Children's Villages - SOS Children's Villages Beau Bassin and SOS Children's Villages Bambous caring for some 150 abandoned children. There is also a Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) which cares for some 800 children living mainly in deprived localities for the prevention of child neglect and abandonment.

Our programme comprises of a host of activities and services, like education and child’s rights, to respond to the needs of the Mauritian child.

SOS Children's Villages Mauritius was founded in 1989 in virtue of an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mauritius. It is affiliated to SOS Kinderdorf International (SOS-KDI), the umbrella organisation.

SOS Mothers receive Ring of Honour for dedication

1ringofhonor

The SOS mothers were very emotional as they walked to receive their ring of honour on behalf of the President of SOS Kinderdorf International.

They are 12 SOS mothers in all, caring day and night after children others have abandoned or neglected. These SOS mothers have served for more than 10 years and brought up two “generations” of children. Among the former SOS children, who are now adults, some have been very successful, married with own family and children and some others still need our support. "We do our best with our heart to give these children the care and love they need”, says an SOS mother's representative.· In recognition for their long-term dedication the umbrella SOS Children’s Villages Organisation has awarded to each of them a Ring of Honour.
