PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES SOS Children's Villages Mauritius cares for the most disadvantaged kids who require long term residential care. The children who are referred by the government, have suffered various forms of abuses ( violence, phychological and emotional trauma). Trauma due to abandonment and other forms of deprivation or abuses during early childhood have profound bruises on most of the kids under our care. Consequently, we observe that major behaviour and personality disorders affecting the stability and development of the kids emerge at later stages of their developent, mainly during adolescence and early adulthood. Some of the consequences of unhealed trauma that we have observed are acute lack of self-esteem and agressivity. It is therefore, necessary to provide psychological counselling and therapeutic services to most of the children under our care and even a few in our Family Strenghthening Programme for prevention of child abandonment. Thus, the services of psychologists on a sessional basis is critical for the success of SOS CV programmes in Mauritius. This service is also extended to the SOS Mothers and aunties. OUTREACH SERVICES
